Prop Firm Rules
While there are some well-known common rules, such as restrictions on the use of Expert Advisors (EAs), High-Frequency Trading (HFT), latency arbitrage, and any trading activity that exploits platform inefficiencies, there are also firm-specific rules that traders need to consider.
Through extensive research into the terms and conditions of all listed prop trading firms, we have identified some major key rules that you should be aware of before joining any of these funded programs.
- News trading is prohibited for funded traders(Non swing accout)
- Holding trades over weekend is prohibited for funded traders(Non-swaing account)
- 400k Max capital per strategy per person hence If we find identical trading strategies across different accounts with more than $400,000 in allocated capital, we may suspend those accounts as per our agreement.
- Your account should not be traded by any 3rd party.
- Opening either significantly larger/smaller position sizes or a substantially different number of positions compared to the customer’s other trades is prohibited,and the Provider reserves the right to determine, at its discretion, whether certain trades, practices, strategies, or situations are considered Forbidden Trading Practices.
- Opening profile accounts is prohibited.
One Sided-Bets
- refer to a trading strategy where the user takes consistently positions in one single direction without considering market conditions or conducting proper analysis.
High Stakes Program
- Minimum of 3 profitable days, a profitable day is a day on which the closed positions made a positive profit of at least 0.5% of the initial balance.
- Excessive Risk taking is not Allowed, Gambling, Toxic trading flow one side betting.
- Your biggest loss should not exceed 3% of the master account size only.
- Profit made from trade closed within 1min of opening will not be counted on the master account only.
- Minimum Trading Days: Traders are required to execute a minimum of 5 individual trades on 5 separate days throughout the Challenge.
- Overtrading /Hyperactivity is prohibited (Hyperactivity can be defined as having 200 trades or 2,000 server messages in a single day.
- use of any EA, BOT, or FIX API connections is strictly prohibited on the cTrader platform.
- copying trades from accounts not owned by the same individual is prohibited.
- holding high volume positions for a very short time frame is prohibited.
- One-sided Betting and Grid trading are prohibited.
- Average Trade Duration
- Traders are required to ensure that the average duration of all their trades exceeds 2 minutes.
- No all or nothing style approach, Excessive max lot / max margin usage.
- No gambling through high impact news.
- Qualified Account Minimum Trading Days
- On a funded account, you are required to meet a minimum of 5 trading days. A trading day is defined as a day when a trade is executed with a lot size and hold time similar to your usual trades. For instance, if you typically trade 0.05 lots, then a trade with 0.02 lots would count. However, if you usually trade 20 lots, then a trade with 0.02 lots would not count. If you reduce your trade size to 5 lots, that would count, provided the trade duration is similar to your usual trades.
- Note: This requirement applies only to the first payout cycle on a funded account and does not result in a soft or hard breach.
- Taking more than 50% of your trades in 1 min holding time is not allowed and it's regarded as gambling.
- Opening 5 positions in a losing trade, encompassing both entry and subsequent positions is not allowed.
- 3 Minimum profitable days is required to pass your challenge phases a profitable day is a day where you generate 0.5% of your initial balance.
- The minimum profitable day only applies to 1-step, 2-step and 2-step max evaluation phases and is not applied to live simulated accounts.
Right of Refusal
- The company has the right to end the contract with Funding Traders customer during evaluation phase ,if he company suspect or note excessive risk on the part of the trader, the company will ask for a interview to clarify theconcern with the trader, if there is no resolution the compny reservses the right to terminate the contract immediately.
Protection of Capital
- If the firm notice you trading in a certain way that can't be replicated in a live condition, The firm reserves the right to terminate your contract.
Consistent Strategy
- The firm expect you to be consistent and responsible all through the trading period, if the firms notice unusual trading pattern they reserve the right to terminate your contract.
Prohibited Trading Practice:
- Trading in a way that jeopardizes the relationship GOATFUNDEDTRADER has with a broker or may result in the canceling of trades.
- Any Trading Style that we deem too risky will be breached and refunded in full.
- Utilize one strategy to pass an assessment , then use another strategy to trade the simulated funded account.
- Duplicating trades and trade ideas on multiple evaluation accounts is not allowed.
Gambling: GFT defines gambling as:
- Taking more than 50% of your trades in 1 min holding time.
- Opening 5 positions in a losing trade, encompassing both entry and subsequent positions.
- Opening one trade and adding subsequent positions to the same trade/instrument traded without making previous positions "risk free" by moving stop loss to breakeven, holding all the positions together until you pass/fail, without any other trade on the account.( This type of trading is allowed on the Swing plus challenge)
- Traders that have been tagged as gamblers are not outrightly banned on the platforms, they are allowed a free retry or getting a full refund.
- Executing large volume trades without a clear or logical trading strategy is regarded as an abuse of the trading environment.
- Account engaging in consistent, high volume trades without a strategy may be flagged
- In severe cases accounts engaging in the above will be terminated.
Leverage Reduction Policy: Traders with High risk exposure will be subjected to this policy, engaging in risky trading patterns, having consistent and substantial losses will lead to potential leverage reduction as determined by GoatFundedTrader risk Team.
- It takes a period of 60 days with improved risk management before your account can be considered for leverage restoration after initial reduction.
- Traders with Initial leverage of 1:100 ( Classic 2 steps and No time limit 2 steps challenges) will be restricted to a maximum of leverage of 1:30.
- Traders with Initial leverage of 1:50 ( GOAT challenges) will be restricted to a maximum of leverage of 1:20.
- Traders with Initial leverage of 1:30 ( 1 STEP challenges) will be restricted to a maximum of leverage of 1:10.
- This policy can be applied at either evaluation phase or funded phase.
- Traders' accounts can be breached if risk exposure is still high after leverage reduction.
You are prohibited from trading with multiple accounts of the same size to exploit market conditions or the prop firm. The firm reserves the right to determine whether trading with multiple accounts of the same size is allowed and may breach and refund some of your accounts if they do not align with our risk appetite.
- Opening multiple profile accounts is prohibited.
- You have to pass KYC with FXIFY and their payment provider(Rise) to be onboarded.
- When you request a withdrawal on 1 phase accounts the drawdown locks in at your initial starting balance.e.gYou start out with a 100k account. Your Daily drawdown is 5% and your Max Trailing is 6%. Your Daily drawdown level is $95,000 and your Max trailing is $94,000. Let’s say you make $6,000 profit. You request a withdrawal of $6,000. You will have failed your account because you left no buffer and your account has reached Max Drawdown. Please note we will still issue the full withdrawal however you will forfeit the account.
- If multiple users are attached to the same CID, this could raise concerns for us related to prohibited trading activity/account management/KYC issues.
- It is prohibited to trade on two challange accounts of the same size at one time.
- Risking your entire account balance on a single trade is not permitted. Excessively risky trading styles violate our terms and will result in account termination with a full refund.
- Hedging across multiple accounts, even those belonging to the same trader, is strictly prohibited.
- In Evaluation phase,Copying trades—manually or via EAs—from one account to another, including from a master account to an evaluation account, is prohibited.
Choice of Strategy
- Traders are not allowed to use one strategy to pass an assessment and then switch to a different strategy in a funded account.
All or Nothing
- This refers to a trading strategy where a trader aims to either achieve full profits or incur total losses.
- Consistency rule
- On combine accounts your profits should not exceed 50% of your profit target.
- On Simulated and Funded account
- After payout the capital remaining in your account will be the maximum amount you will be able to lose.
- Your maximum loss limit will always be set to $0 after your first payout.
- 5 winning days of $200 minimum to Qualify for Payouts.
- Only 2 funded accounts are available for a user per time.
- Users cannot trade the same markets at the same time on more than one account
- Holding opposing positions on multiple accounts is considered cheating and will lead to account closure without a refund.
30 Seconds Rule
- Trades with a duration of less than 30 seconds cannot exceed 5% of the total trades in the account. Profits obtained in less than this duration will be subtracted.
Gambling Rule
- The daily and/or per-trade profit limit is $10,000.
- Prohibition on all strategies that take advantage of unrealistic market fills and abusing the demo environment inefficiencies.
All of Nothing
- This refers to a trading strategy where a trader aims to either achieve full profits or incur total losses.
For Simulated Funded Traders
- Open Positions: Traders are allowed to hold a maximum of three open positions on the same instrument at any given time. Increasing the size of an existing position will be considered as opening a new position.
Position Management
- Traders are prohibited from manually closing a trade or adjusting the stop-loss (SL) or take-profit (TP) after the first 15 seconds or before the initial 2 minutes have elapsed. Doing so will result in a soft breach, with two soft breaches escalating to a hard breach.
- Margin Rule
- Traders cannot use more than 40% of the available margin for 1 single trade or multiple trades on the same instrument in the same direction.
- Forbidden Gambling Practices Over-Leveraging
- Using excessive leverage without a systematic approach or risk management strategy,One-Sided Betting,Account Rolling: Repeatedly starting new trading challenges with a high-risk approach, disregarding sensible trading practices.
- 70% of profit target should not be from 1 trade.
- Restriction on unethical trading practices, such as latency arbitrage, account arbitrage, tick scalping or any other forms of cheating.
30% Consistency Rule
- Tthe profit balance in the account cannot consist of more than 30% of the profit balance being from a single trading day.
Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA)
- Adding trades to a losing positions.
Trading with no System and Consistency
- Gambling, Erratic trading, Windfall trading.
Profitable Position – only applies for evaluation
- The trader’s best position cannot have more than 30% of the total profit target.
60 Seconds Rule
- The difference between every buy-sell order and vice versa should have a range of at least 60 seconds. (For Day Trading program)
The 10 Cents Rule
- All profitable positions must be at least 10 cents per share in profit. Example: Buy at $50.10, sell at $50.20 (at least)
Halt Trading
- Trading is not allowed on a symbol that has made an 8% move within 4 trading minutes. (An automatic halt will take place after the asset moved 10% within 5 minutes) If a halt has occurred, once trading is resumed, a trader must wait 1 minute before opening a new trade/position.
Minimum Volume
- During pre/after market hours – a trader will be able to open a new position / add to an existence position only if the number of shares that have been traded on that day is more than 20,000 shares.
Evaluation Count
- Trading more than one breakout evaluation at the same time is prohibited.
Choice of Strategy
- Traders are not allowed to use one strategy to pass an assessment and then switch to a different strategy in a funded account.
Position Management
- Traders are required to always use a stop-loss on every position as soon as possible within a 1-minute window; this constitutes a soft breach if neglected.
News Bracketing Strategy
- The bracketing strategy involves placing buy and sell pending orders around high-impact news events above and below the market price, this is prohibited.
Gambling Rule
- Traders are prohibited from 'gambling to pass,' which involves taking excessively high-risk trades or maxing out leverage to pass challenges quickly.
- The Consistency Rule
- 40% rule only exists in Simulated Funded phase, the profits made on one trading day should not exceed 40% of your overall profits per payout cycle
- Payout Cap
- Starter Plan ONLY For the first 60 days, no payout can exceed the dollar value of your max drawdown based on your starting balance. After the first 60 days, that account is eligible for uncapped payouts.
- 5 winning days to qualify for payouts.
One Sided-Bets
- Which refer to a trading strategy where the user takes consistently positions in one single direction without considering market conditions or conducting proper analysis.
Stacking
- Traders are prohibited from stacking, which involves placing an unusually large number of orders in a short period of time.
The Consistency Rule 40%
- Profits from one single trading day should not exceed 40% of the profit target on challenge.
Minimum Trading Days
- You must complete 3 minimum trading days, only during the evaluation stage.
- Using one strategy to pass the assessment and another strategy to trade the funded stage is not allowed.
- Excessive risk taking is not Allowed
- Consistency rules for withdrawal : At the time of any payout request, the Funded account's most profitable active trading day cannot exceed forty 40%of the total accumulated profit, including withdrawals.
- You cannot enter trades with minimum risk to meet withdrawal criteria.
- All Elite Sim-Funded traders must execute at least one trade per calendar week. If you are unable to trade in a given week, please inform ETF’s customer service team.
- Elite Sim-Funded traders must actively trade the required number of Active Trading days per payout cycle and maintain consistent trading behavior. If an Elite Sim-Funded trader's payout request is denied and/or delayed during an audit three times due to non-compliance, it will result in account closure.
- Do not use IP masking technology(e.g VPN,VPS etc.)
- Do not be an employee or owner of a competitor.
- Do not hedge against yourself.
- Only 1 trader per household.
- Over-risking to the point whereby you can breach drawdown limit in a single trade is prohibited, this type of trading is all or nothing kind of mentality which is not allowed.
- A max daily gain of 10,000$ on both evaluation phases and funded phase. Your total profit at the end of the day( 5PM EST) must not exceed the 10,000 dollars daily gain, irrespective of the trading strategy and how long you must have held the trade.
- In a Simulated Funded Account:
- Any trade that exceeds the $10,000 threshold will not be included in your payout request.
- 3 violations will result in an immediate account breach with no payout.
Consistency Rule
- Traders must show consistency in their results concerning trade length and lot size to meet the minimum trading days required for the specific programs. For instance, if a trader opens one position of 15 lots on one day and then six positions of 0.1 lot on six separate trading days, this will lead to failing the Ability Challenge.
Consistency Score
- Traders are required to have a score above 70 to be considered consistent. Scores between 50 and 70 will prompt a risk team review to decide if trading should continue until the score exceeds 70. If the score is below 50, trading must continue until it rises above 50. Traders who meet the profit target but not the consistency score must keep trading until they do.
CFD/ Futures Programs
- Achieving the profit target in one trade. Opening substantially larger position sizes relative to your other trades. Opening a substantially smaller or larger number of positions relative to your other trades. Gambling and Toxic trading behaviors: (e.g. overleveraging, overexposure, one-sided bets, account rolling).
Excessive or Unrealistic Trading Volume
- Engaging in an excessive or unrealistic number of lots/contracts traded within a single day is prohibited.
Lot Size Manipulation
- Traders are prohibited from using significantly smaller lot sizes to reach profit targets after executing one large trade, in an attempt to fulfill minimum trading day requirements.
The Consistency Rule
- Profits during one single trading day should not exceed 30% of the profit target. There is no consistency objective for funded traders.
Minimum of 7 Days Objective
- Minimum of 7 days of trading in order to complete this objective. No need to be consecutive. Traders finishing the profit target and the consistency objectives before completing 7 days are required to continue to trade in the style they have been. Micro trading is not allowed.
The Consistency Rule
- Profits in one trading day should not exceed 45% of your total profits. The Consistency Rule applies to both Phases of Day Trading and Swing challenge types and only Phase of Single Phase Challenge.
News Trading
- Trading is restricted within the 2-minute window before and after a high-impact news event.
- You can't increase risk after getting funded.
- Don't risk more than 50% of your daily drawdown limit on open trades at any given time.(For instant funding accounts)
- Your payment method must match your KYC and withdrawal details.
- The Gambling Rule prohibits gambling or all-or-nothing behavior, including revenge trading, over-leveraging, and over-exposure. Violating this rule may result in account termination.
- The Stop Loss Rule requires customers to use a stop loss on all positions at all times. Newly opened positions have a 120-second grace period to set an appropriate stop loss.(For Instant accounts)
Concentrated Strategies
- Strategies must be diversified. Trading a single asset to pass the challenge is not allowed. Accounts that have reached the target profit by trading a single symbol may got rejected.
Relying on Luck
- Using all margin and max lot allowance to go “all-in” on one symbol or correlated symbols.
Exploitative Strategies
- Strictly prohibit risking full margin in a single trade.
Daily Max Profit (Consistency trading rule): Max Profit or Consistency Rules during the 2 trade assessment phases (Challenges). This rule does not apply once a Prop Trading account is allocated. During the 2 assessment phases: Phase 1: 5% daily max profit Phase 2: 2% daily max profit
News Trading: Restriction on executing any new trades or closing existing trades within a 6-minute window: 3 minutes before and 3 minutes after the release of major news announcements.
Copy Trading: Copy trading on OANDA Prop Trader Account from external accounts would be considered a violation of the trading rules.
Consistency rule: 50% of the profits from one single trading day cannot be larger than 50% of the profit target on challenge.
40% Consistency Rule on Qualified trader.
No minimum trading days during Evaluation and Qualified Trader.
- News Trading policy restricts trading during significant economic news releases to prevent excessive market volatility and ensure a fair trading environment for all clients. The trader must refrain from opening or closing trades 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after high-impact (red folder) news events on both evaluation and earning accounts. This includes trade execution and closure, even if you placed the trade before and your take-profit (TP) got hit during the restricted time frame.
- No excessive scalping - Defined as Holding 50% or more of your trades for less thana minute.
- No Grid Trading - Placing multiple trades at predetermined intervals to create a grid-like structure, with no clear risk management strategy.
- No “All In” Trades - Placing a trade in one direction with no risk management (i.e., nostop-loss), where the trade will either pass or fail the challenge in a single attempt.
Minimum of 3 Days Objective
- Fulfilling minimum trading day with small lots trade is not allowed.
Over Leveraging
- Placing random large trades, without having a pattern or strategy behind them, or without being able to explain it to us, it will be flagged.
Achieving the Profit Target In One Trade
- (Or in a few similar trades on the same instrument within one day) is prohibited.
Consistency Rules - As part of restricting the gambling practices, we could apply any of the following consistency rules on your existing and/or the upgraded trading account(s):
- Require you to use Stop Losses and limit your maximum risk per trade, per account or per day
- Cap your maximum daily profit
- Cap your maximum daily loss
- Reduce leverage
- Set your maximum daily lot exposure
- Restrict trading during news
- A minimum trading period of 3 days has been added across all phases. Traders must achieve at least 0.5% profit on each of these days. These days do not need to be consecutive—any day with at least 0.5% profit will count toward the 3-day minimum trading period

Qualified Account Minimum Trading Days Update: On a funded account, you are required to meet a minimum of 5 trading days. Removed Daily Loss Limit on TopstepX:
Starting from August 25th, new TopstepX accounts will no longer have a Daily Loss Limit. This change applies only to Trading Combines and Express Funded Accounts on the TopstepX platform.

Alpha Pro Program Update: Holding trades over the weekend is now restricted on Pro qualified accounts.
Holding trades over the weekend on funded Alpha Pro accounts will result in a soft breach, with profits being reversed.
Pro qualified accounts are able to switch from Pro to Swing if traders wish to hold trades over the weekend.
New payment option for crypto: Added NOWPayments for crypto payment.

If you reach the Daily Loss Limit on your account you will get soft breach. Your account will be prevented from placing any new trades until the start of the next trading day.

Inactivity rule updated: All accounts in all stages are limited to a 30-day inactivity period.
MetaTrader platforms have ceased to be offered to US traders. All existing accounts will be migrated to the DX trade platform “ US Traders Only”
Breach Rule Update: Negative Available Margin or Hedging Between Different Accounts,
If your account is found with a Negative Available Margin or Hedging Between Different Accounts, you will receive a Soft Breach instead of a Hard Breach. Only the trades that caused the breach will be closed, enabling you to resume trading on the affected accounts without disruption.
NOTE: If a Negative Available Margin is detected, the relevant account will always be subject to a Soft Breach. However, if Hedging Between Different Accounts is detected, a Soft Breach will be issued only once. After this initial Soft Breach, the relevant accounts will be subject to a Hard Breach.

Consistency Rule Update: The consistency rule is being removed for all accounts, both new and existing.
