Prop Firm Rules

In the prop trading industry, rules can vary significantly from one firm to another based on their risk management policies. This section provides key rules for each firm and highlights any significant rule changes along with the specific dates of those changes.

General Trading Rules

Notional Volume:

Floating Drawdown

  • Instant Funding: On Instant Funding accounts, the Floating Drawdown threshold is 1.5% of the Initial Account Balance. A Dashboard or platform reminder may appear at 1.0%. The first confirmed Floating Drawdown breach results in a Formal Warning only. From the second confirmed breach onward, each separate qualifying event results in one Strike and Reward Payment reduction to 10% for the relevant Payout Cycle.

  • Challenge and Pro evaluation phases: During Challenge and Pro Challenge phases, the Floating Drawdown threshold is 2.0% of the Initial Account Balance. Reaching the threshold does not result in a real-time alert, email alert, platform notification, soft warning, Strike, Account Reset, Reward Payment reduction, or account closure. Relevant findings may be included in the Challenge Phase Progression Report.

  • Challenge and Pro funded phase: Once a Challenge or Pro account reaches Simulated Funded Status, the 2.0% Floating Drawdown threshold is enforced. A reminder may appear at 1.5%. A confirmed breach results in one Strike and Reward Payment reduction to 10% for the relevant Payout Cycle. Only one Strike may be issued per trade and instrument combination. Five cumulative Strikes result in permanent account closure.

Loss-chasing and gambling-style trading behavior is prohibited

  • This refers to repeatedly engaging in one-directional or impulsive trading aimed at recovering prior losses, including immediately re-entering positions in the same instrument and direction after a losing trade

Scalping Rule:

  • Short-duration trading is not automatically prohibited. Prohibited scalping is identified by Finotive thresholds. A scalping condition is identified where 40% or more of closed trades in a Payout Cycle have a holding time of 120 seconds or less, or 20% or more of total positive realised profit in the Payout Cycle is generated from trades held for 120 seconds or less.

High Frequency Trading:

  • The specific High-Frequency Trading rule applies to Instant Funding Standard and Instant Funding Lite only. HFT is prohibited where 30% or more of closed trades have a holding time of less than 60 seconds, with at least 10 closed trades required before assessment, or five or more trades are opened within any 10-second interval.

Excessive One-Sided Position Concentration:

  • Excessive One-Sided Position Concentration is identified where the trader has at least 10 closed trades in a Payout Cycle and either 70% or more of closed trades are on the same symbol and in the same direction, or 70% or more of total exposure is on the same symbol and in the same direction.

What is Liquidity Abuse:

  • Liquidity Abuse means systematically targeting low-liquidity conditions, widened spreads, or execution inefficiencies. A condition may be identified where at least 20% of total realised profit in a review period or Payout Cycle is generated from trades opened and closed within the applicable low-liquidity window.

Low-liquidity trading and spread exploitation is prohibited

  • This refers to the systematic execution of trades during low-liquidity market conditions with the intent to benefit from widened spreads, delayed order execution, or sharp price movements. A breach occurs when trades are consistently opened or closed between 22:00 and 02:00 UTC, and more than 20% of total profit is generated during this time window.

Use of VPNs, iCloud Private Relay, proxies, remote desktops, anonymisers, IP masking, rapidly changing IPs, or geographically inconsistent connections may lead to failed verification, account closure, Reward Payment rejection, and refund refusal.

Weekend holding: Evaluation based programs

  • Allowed | Instant Standard & Instant Lite: Not Allowed without add-on

Hedging

  • Hedging between multiple accounts is prohibited.

High-frequency stacking (including correlated instruments)

News straddling is prohibited.

  • This means placing straddled, offsetting, or equivalent hedged exposure on the same or correlated instruments within 15 minutes before or after Red or Amber events, earnings events, or geopolitical events where the purpose is to capture volatility rather than express a genuine directional view.

Accounts inactive for 30 consecutive days may be closed without refund

  • Orion Swing: News trading is fully allowed with no restrictions.

Copy Trading

  • Copy trading is allowed only between accounts owned by the same trader within Orion Funded. External copy trading services, third-party tools, or trade replication between different account holders are strictly prohibited.

Expert Advisor

  • Expert Advisors are allowed as long as they comply with Orion Funded's trading rules. EAs or automated systems used for prohibited strategies, system abuse, latency exploitation, ultra-fast execution, or unfair trading advantages are not permitted.

Inactivity Rule

  • Accounts with no trading activity for 30 consecutive calendar days may be classified as inactive, deactivated, or terminated.

Prohibited Practices

  • Gap trade: open trades specifically to exploit price gaps in either of the following situations:
    • when major global news, macroeconomic events, or earnings releases are scheduled that may affect the relevant market; or
    • within 2 hours of a relevant market closing for at least 2 hours
  • Circumvent the Best Day Rule: strategies that artificially distribute profit across multiple days without proportionally distributing market risk
  • Overload the server with automation: EAs or robots that generate more than 2,000 server requests per day (orders opened, modified, or closed) are not permitted
  • Exploit platform errors: knowingly or unknowingly use strategies that take advantage of price display errors, delayed price updates, or slow or external data feeds
  • Coordinate manipulative trades: perform trades alone or with others, including across connected accounts or accounts held with other providers, for manipulative purposes, such as simultaneously holding opposite positions across different accounts (holding opposing positions within a single account is permitted)
  • Other prohibited practices: https://www.orionfunded.com/faq/programs/prohibited-practices

Risk Management Rules

  • Your trading needs to reflect how a reasonable person would manage risk on a real account. The following are not considered standard market risk management:
    • Opening position sizes that are substantially larger than your other trades
    • Opening substantially more or fewer positions than your normal pattern
    • Repeatedly increasing risk per trade in ways that build cumulative exposure in a single symbol or correlated symbols

15%OFF

Maximum Lot Sizes:

Margin Limit:

Minimum hold time:

  • Trades held for 60 seconds or less are regarded as high frequency trades and are prohibited

Smart Drawdown (Instant Funding Pro, Instant Funding Lite and Instant Funding Clarity):

  • It starts at -10% and automatically adjusts to -5% once you achieve a 5% gain on your account balance. After that point, the drawdown remains fixed at -5% of your starting balance, even if your profits grow.

News Trading:

  • One-Phase Pro, and One Phase Lite (challenge phase only): No news restrictions
  • IF Micro Pro, IF Starter, IF Evolve: No news restrictions
  • Instant Funding Pro, Instant Funding Lite, One-Phase Pro, One Phase Lite (funded accounts) and Instant Funding Clarity: News trading is not allowed 4 minutes before and after high impact news, Allowed with Add-on.
  • News trading is not allowed on IF Micro Lite accounts. Opening or closing a trade within 4 minutes either side of a red folder news event will result in a minor violation on your account.

Weekend Holding

  • One-Phase Pro, and One Phase Lite (challenge phase only): Allowed
  • IF Micro Pro, IF Starter: Allowed
  • Instant Funding Pro, Instant Funding Lite, One-Phase, One Phase Lite (funded accounts) and Instant Funding Clarity: Allowed with Add-on
  • IF Evolve: Not allowed

Inactivity: If no trades are placed within 60 days of your account purchase or after the last trade, your account will be automatically closed.

Risk per Trading Instrument

  • Instant Funding Pro: You may not risk more than 3% of your starting account balance at any time on a single trade idea.
  • Instant Funding Lite: You may not risk more than 2% of your starting account balance at any time on a single trade idea.
  • IF Micro Pro and IF Starter: You may not risk more than 1% of your starting account balance at any time in one trade idea
  • One Phase Pro: You may not risk more than 50% of your daily drawdown at any time in one trade idea.
  • Closing and reopening a position in the same direction on the same instrument within 10 minutes is treated as the same trade idea and does not reset the limit. -Exceeding this limit will result in a hard breach.
  • Account Drawdown (Clarity): If the unrealized loss on your open positions exceeds 2% of the starting balance on a One-Phase Clarity account or 1.5% on an IF Micro Clarity account, and 2.5% on an Instant Funding Clarity account the system closes everything automatically. First time, your account moves to a 50% profit split and stays active — your second chance. A second breach closes the account permanently.

Prohibited Practice and strategies

  • Latency Arbitrage: Exploiting delays in data updates for unfair advantages.
  • Tick Scalping: Attempting to profit from minimal price fluctuations at unsustainable speeds.
  • Account Arbitrage: Using multiple accounts to exploit differences in trading conditions, bonuses, or risk limits for unfair gain.
  • Account Churning (Rolling): Opening multiple funded or challenge accounts in quick succession is prohibited
  • High-frequency trading (HFT): HFT involves holding trades for 60 seconds or less.
  • Third-Party EAs: Publicly available third-party Expert Advisors (EAs), algorithms, or bots are not permitted.
  • Reverse Trading: Involves using multiple accounts to take opposing positions on the same asset (e.g., one account goes long while another goes short).
  • Group Hedging: Occurs when multiple traders coordinate their positions to hedge risk across accounts.
  • One-Sided Bets: Taking positions in a single direction without proper analysis or consideration of market trends, often leading to excessive exposure.
  • Grid Trading: Placing buy and sell orders at fixed intervals, relying solely on price fluctuations rather than informed analysis. This strategy disregards market conditions and often leads to uncontrolled losses.
  • Overleveraging: Exceeding the allowable lot size limit for your account type on a single trade idea. This creates excessive risk and significantly increases the chances of an account wipeout.
  • Gambling: Engaging in trades that resemble betting rather than strategy, such as placing random positions without analysis or risking large portions of the account on a single trade idea.
  • Martingale: Increasing positional notional volume after each trade, aiming to recover previous losses or amplify winnings on subsequent trades. This involves doubling down after a losing trade. Martingale trading is allowed for all challenges and IF Micro accounts (including funded stage). For Instant Funding accounts, traders can add to losing positions but must avoid continuously doubling lot sizes after losses.
  • Improper Day Padding: If a minimum trading day requirement applies to your account, each trading day should reflect your normal trading behavior. Opening negligible or artificial trades solely to meet the minimum trading day requirement is not permitted.
    • This includes: Trading significantly smaller lot sizes than usual, Executing low-risk or meaningless trades with no strategic intent. Such behavior is considered inconsistent and does not align with our evaluation of genuine trading skill.

Key rules

  • Multiple Profiles: Creating multiple profiles is prohibited.

  • Opposite trading/hedging across multiple accounts or traders

  • Over Leveraging: Placing random large trades without a strategy will be flagged.

  • Tick scalping: defined as opening and closing a trade within 10 seconds. If over 10% of your trades are tick scalps, you will receive a warning, and repeated violations will lead to account termination.

  • Using a single electronic device for trading between multiple customers is prohibited.

  • It is strictly prohibited for anyone to pay for a Fintokei service on behalf of someone else, regardless of the payment method used. We call this practice unauthorized third-party payment.

  • It's prohibited to use multiple IP addresses from many countries when connecting to your Fintokei Demo accounts or mask the IP addresses.

  • One-sided betting: placing big trades during high volatility or news events without a strategy, hoping for a spike

  • Account rolling: pushing the accounts to the limits, then buying another one

  • All-in trading: effectively achieving the Profit Target in one trade (or in a few similar trades on the same instrument)

  • Maximum allowed risk: The maximum allowed risk of opened trades is 3%. The risk on open trades is calculated based on stop losses set by the trader (if applicable and visible in the platform) and on the Value at Risk (VaR) analysis over a specific period or trading session, whichever is lower.

  • Profit Target: Achieving the profit target in one trade (or a few similar trades in one day) is prohibited.

Consistency Rules

  • The restrictions in this case apply to all existing and future accounts under your profile at Fintokei.
  • This happens in more serious cases, such as:
    • After receiving 3 or more warnings across different accounts without visible change
    • When your overall profile shows unsustainable trading patterns; for example, repeated breaches due to high-risk behavior, reliance on a few high-impact days, high-impact trade ideas or on an excessive volatility
    • If your trading is flagged as unsustainable because it performs like randomness.
    • If we detect patterns similar to system abuse (e.g. hedging across accounts, copy trading behavior, etc.), but do not have proof of such malicious activity
    • These cases go beyond just one account, they reflect your overall approach, and we have to step in at the profile level to protect platform integrity.
