Prop Firm Rules

In the prop trading industry, rules can vary significantly from one firm to another based on their risk management policies. This section provides key rules for each firm and highlights any significant rule changes along with the specific dates of those changes.

Rules39

50%OFF

News Trading:

  • News trading is not allowed 5 minutes before and after high impact news. Trades that were opened at least two hours prior to the scheduled high-impact news event are allowed to close during the restricted period, including closure triggered by Take Profit or Stop Loss.
  • News trading is allowed on the Instant Funding Pro and Phoenix Instant without restriction.

Copy Trading:

  • Allowed only between Moneta Funded accounts (except Sprint accounts). A Moneta Funded account may act as a copied or “slave” account only when the master account is also a Moneta Funded account and both accounts belong to the same individual.

Maximum daily profit (Instant Funding Pro):

  • 4%

Max Floating Loss:

  • 2-Step Funded Accounts (5% Daily Loss option) and Instant Pro: 3% of the account size in floating loss on the same symbol
  • 2-Step Funded Accounts (4% Daily Loss option), 1-Step Funded Accounts, Instant Funding, and Phoenix: 2% of the account size in floating loss on the same symbol

Static Drawdown rule for 1-Step Daily:

  • One Step Daily uses a 2% static Maximum Loss during normal trading. It does not trail as the account grows. Once a payout is approved, the Maximum Loss Level locks at the account's original starting balance. The lock is triggered by payout approval, not by completion of the payment transfer.

Prohibited Practices:

Risk management:

  • Allocating a substantial or majority portion of the allowable daily loss or available margin to a single trade idea, whether through realized losses, stop-loss exposure, or a set of highly correlated positions, is prohibited.

Martingale:

  • Martingale is a trading strategy that involves increasing position size after a loss in an attempt to recover previous losses with a single winning trade; the use of martingale strategies is prohibited.

Grid Trading/ Hedging:

  • Grid Trading or Hedging is a trading approach where opposing buy and sell orders for the same instrument are strategically placed to achieve equivalent or similar risk, and is prohibited.

Reverse trading:

  • Whether conducted between different proprietary trading firms or internally between multiple Moneta Funded accounts, is strictly prohibited.

High-Frequency Trading (HFT):

  • Refers to trading patterns that rely primarily on extremely short holding times, rapid order placement, or execution speed rather than genuine market direction or strategy. This may include automated or manual strategies designed mainly to exploit latency, price feed differences, or execution mechanics through very high volumes of rapid trades. Short-term trading and scalping are permitted. Trades held for seconds or minutes as part of a legitimate discretionary or systematic strategy are considered normal trading activity. However, trading behavior that consistently involves extremely short-duration trades executed in very high frequency, or strategies built primarily around execution speed rather than market analysis, may be classified as HFT and may trigger risk controls or account limitations.

Hyperactivity and Excessive Order Spamming:

  • Trading activity that involves an abnormally high volume of orders, excessive scaling, or repetitive order placement without a genuine discretionary trading rationale is prohibited.

Latency Arbitrage Trading:

  • Involves employing a data stream intentionally designed to have a delay or lag in providing market data, such as stock prices or trading volumes. This grants an unjust advantage to the trader compared to others who must rely on real-time market data.

General Exploitation of a Demo Environment:

  • While Latency Arbitrage Trading is one of the most frequented methodologies utilized to exploit demo environments, it's not the only way traders can exploit a demo environment in order to make unethical gains that wouldn't otherwise be possible within legitimate financial markets. That is, traders can also take advantage of glitches that arise within a demo environment rather than reporting the glitch taking place.

Gamification of the Evaluation:

  • Participants must engage in genuine market speculation based on their own discretionary analysis. Any attempt to optimize, manipulate, or ""game"" the parameters of the evaluation instead of trading the financial markets is prohibited. This includes statistical or probability-based approaches that seek to exploit the firm's rules without a genuine market thesis, trigger, or understanding. Trading strategies whose primary objective is to maximize the probability of passing the evaluation by exploiting the program's mechanics, rather than demonstrating authentic trading skill, are not permitted.

Account Sharing:

  • Traders are prohibited from sharing accounts or transferring Simulated Funded Accounts from one owner to another for any purpose.

Phoenix Scaling Program:

  • The Phoenix Program provides a unique opportunity for rewarding traders who consistently exhibit expert performance. Account holders will be automatically progressed to the next phase upon completion of the below detailed Targets for Scaling.
  • Traders may begin at Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, or Level 4 of the program.
  • Once the 10% profit target for the selected starting level is achieved, that 10% will be converted into withdrawable credit at the next level.
  • The credit may be withdrawn at the next payout, provided the 14-day minimum payout interval and the requirement of 3 minimum profitable days are met.
  • For example, a trader starting at Level 2 ($5,000 starting balance) who reaches the 10% profit target ($500) will automatically scale to Level 3 ($10,000 starting balance).
  • The $500 profit is converted into withdrawable credit.

At this point, the trader has two options:

Option 1 – Continue scaling:

  • The trader may continue trading and work toward the Level 3 profit target of 10% ($1,000). Once this target is reached, the account will scale to the next level.

Option 2 – Request a payout:

  • After the minimum 14-day trading period from the first trade and at least 3 profitable days are met, the trader may request a payout. Any new profits generated on the Level 3 account can be withdrawn together with the $500 credit.
  • For example, if the trader earns an additional $200 on the Level 3 account, they may
  • request a payout of $700 ($500 credit + $200 profit), provided the payout conditions are satisfied.
  • If the trader chooses to withdraw the $700, they will still need to generate the full Level 3 profit target of 10% ($1,000) in order to scale up to the next level.

Funded

  • 1-Step Prime & 2-Step Prime: Allowed
  • 2-Step Pro & Direct(Instant Funding): Prohibited

For Pro - All trades are automatically closed at 15:45 EST on Friday and the account is disabled, contact support to have it re-enabled for trading from Monday onwards.

For Directt - All trades must be closed before 15:45 EST on Friday, any trades remaining open will be auto-closed and the account permanently terminated (hard breach).

Inactivity Rule

Accounts inactive for 30 consecutive days are permanently suspended. Only opening a new trade counts as an active trading day.

2% Risk Per Trade Idea Rule on the Direct, 1-Step Prime, 2-Step Prime and 2-Step Pro Funded Accounts

Your risk per trade idea should not exceed 2% of the account size (initial balance). This includes;

  • Single Trade Idea
  • Layering/Splitting Positions - multiple positions on the same assets, same direction, with overlapping time are collectively treated as one single trade idea.
  • The 10-Minute Re-entry Rule - Opening a new position in the same direction on the same asset within 10 minutes of closing counts as the continuation of the same trade idea.
  • Breach of this rule will result in a hard breach and termination of the account.

Stop Loss Rules For Defining The 2% Risk Per Trade Idea Rule

  • A Stop Loss is mandatory for every trade. The absence of a Stop Loss will be considered as infinite risk by default.
  • Failure to comply with this requirement constitutes a hard breach and may result in account termination.
  • -There is no fixed window requiring the Stop Loss to be set immediately — traders may manage risk to suit their strategy, as long as the Stop Loss is placed before the trade is closed.
  • Traders must follow sound risk management at all times. Violations of prohibited trading practices may result in the risk limit being reduced to 1%, communicated via official channels.

Max Exposure Limits (2 Step Pro — Funded only)

  • $5K & $10K — No lot limit
  • $25K — 10 lots | $50K — 20 lots | $100K — 40 lots | $200K — 80 lots

If breached:

  • All open trades auto-closed and account disabled
  • Profits from exceeding trades are deducted
  • Trader is responsible if deductions trigger Daily or Max Loss Limit breach

Consequences:

  1. 1st breach: Warning + profit deduction; account can be re-enabled via support
  2. 2nd breach: Profit deduction + profit split reduced to 30% + account termination
  • Note: From the 2nd Scaling onwards, traders with a 2-Step Pro Funded Account will receive a 10% increase in their maximum lot exposure, calculated based on the account’s original maximum base lot limit. This increase applies at each successful scaling.

MT5 Platform Limits

  • On the MT5 platform, there is a hard platform‑side limit of 100 orders at a time and 1,000 maximum positions per day, which includes new orders and any order modifications (such as TP/SL changes or updates to limit orders).

Daily drawdown breach Payout protection policy

If the Daily Loss Limit is breached but the account is profitable, the trader may still receive 100% of their reward and fee reimbursement provided: no single trade exceeded 1% of the initial balance in profit or loss, and all trades had a stop loss in place. Both conditions must be met. Any breach caused by prohibited trading practices or other rule violations results in full forfeiture of profits and pending payouts.

Direct Trailing Drawdown Lock

Once a trader's profit equals the max trailing drawdown amount, the drawdown locks at the starting balance and no longer trails upward.

Martingale

  • Allowed.

Gambling is prohibited and includes:

  • Excessive Scalping
    • Holding 50%+ of trades for less than a minute.

All-in

  • Making a single trade with no stop-loss or risking more than the drawdown limit to pass or fail the challenge. This rule also applies for the funded stage.

Gamifying

  • Trading 2 accounts against each other, going long on one and short on the other, with the hope of passing the challenge.

  • A trade refers to one or more positions on the same pair with similar timing and lot size. Small-lot or random “gambling” entries don’t qualify and may lead to disqualification.

More on prohibited strategies

News Trading

  • Executing trades within 2 minutes before or after a red folder news event, including trades hitting TP, profit target, or any trade in profit even those opened before the event. The auto-close feature triggering during this window also counts as a violation, whether or not a TP is set. Any profit generated in the news window means the challenge won't be passed. The same rules apply to funded accounts, with profits from news events not credited in either phase. The firm maintains a predefined list of specific news events and trading pairs that are restricted — only the explicitly listed instruments are affected.

Instant Mini, Instant Funding & 1-Step BNPL:

  • News trading allowed with no restrictions

  • 2-Step Omo
News trading is fully permitted during Phase 1 and Phase 2 with no restrictions. In the funded stage, news trading is still allowed but any profit made during a news event within a 4-minute window, 2 minutes before and after is capped at 0.50% of your account balance.

Funded Daily Profit Cap
